Working

Besides for the adventure, I came to Canada to get a taste of working in Oil/Gas/Mining. If I wasn't too picky about the job, I'd be working soon, right? Apparently not. So I started looking for something to do in the meantime, and that's how I got my first (temporary) job: Customer Service Representative (read: call center agent) at ADT Security, a large alarms systems company. I work 7am-3pm (Canadian workdays tend to start early). Nearby location, with a great view on Calgary:

I joined the company right in their annual "Customer Service Week", which is a special week. For instance, today they brought in pizza for everyone. My Canadian co-workers have an amazing appetite. Belgian women would at least joke about how they shouldn't be eating this, and do with a few slices less, but not here. I should say I did my fair share too. A good day to start one's job :-)

This (Thanksgiving) weekend I'll go biking in Fish Creek park (here in Calgary) and crank out some more applications.

  1. Whoa 7-3 is a standard workday?

That's what I work, but most people here come in from 8-4 or 9-5... 9-5 is the real standard, but I like to get in early (quiet and no traffic) and leave early (no traffic)

  2. Hi FB! Yes, the people I know start at 7:30 or 8, which is early by Belgian standards (9).

  3. Also, good to know I'm not the only one who has to get up at the ungodly hour of 6am :D
